What is Magnelis and how does it differ from galvanized steel?

Why is Magnelis increasingly used in solar mounting structures? We explain the advantage of ZM coating at cut edges.

Magnelis is steel sheet coated with a zinc-aluminium-magnesium (ZM) alloy. While the coating on standard galvanized sheet is zinc only, Magnelis also contains aluminium and magnesium.

Self-protection at cut edges

Profile manufacturing involves cutting and punching, which leaves the steel exposed. Magnelis' key advantage is stronger self-protection against corrosion at cut, punched or exposed edges.

What does S350GD + ZM310 mean?

  • S350GD: a structural steel grade with high yield strength
  • ZM310: a total of 310 g/m² zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating on both sides

Where is it used?

Above all in solar mounting profiles, as well as greenhouses and agricultural buildings, fence and barrier systems, cable trays and other outdoor steel structures.
